Where:
Race Course:
Full race course is approximately 2 miles, 1.71miles between Johnny Mercer Pier and Crystal Pier plus swim from beach start around marker buoys and swim to beach finish.
Race direction will be with prevailing ocean current on race day.

Start and Finish Location:
Beach start & finish – race direction will be determined race day and announced at check-in. (Bus transportation will be provided for swimmers between check-in and start/finish lines)
Eligibility:
All participants must be at least 11 years of age.
Divisions:
Male and Female 11-12, 13-14, 15-18, 19-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, etc. (5 year increments)
Start Waves:
Minimum 2 starting waves - separated by 10 minutes
Wave 1: 18 & under
Wave 2: 19 & over (split into two waves depending on number of swimmers).

Top 3 in the following categories: 11-12, 13-14, 15-18, 19-24,

Rules:
Each swimmer will be required to the wear a bright colored, numbered swim cap provided at check-in. No wet-suits are allowed. Personal paddlers/kayakers are optional and will be allowed with the race director’s consent. The course will be patrolled by Lifeguards on the beach, race marshals in kayaks, and the US Coast Guard. Decisions by Wrightsville Beach Ocean Rescue in regard to safety before and during the race are final.
Swimwear:
Pier-2-Pier follows FINA rules for Openwater swimwear:
BL 8.4 From June 1, 2010 Open Water swimwear for both men and women shall not cover the neck, extend past the shoulder, nor shall extend below the ankle. All Open Water swimsuits shall comply with the FINA Criteria for Materials and Approval Procedures.
Check-in & Verification:
At check-in, all participants will be marked with their race number, and receive a numbered cap and a ChampionChip anklet tag for tracking individual start and finish times. The ChampionChip must be returned at the finish of the race. Marks and numbered caps must be worn at all times during the race.
To insure all participants are accounted for, any swimmer leaving the water early will have their cap and ChampionChip collected by the lifeguards on the beach.
